Crystals

I work my way down the winter landscape,
to cross the low hedge at the foot of the hill.

And emerge from a narrow pathway,
to an immaculate, flat, white plane.

I step from textured surroundings,
onto blankness, the snow, deep and crisp.

No skittering sparrow has sullied the perfect surface,
to ruin its simple beauty…
