Sausage Rolls

Well, I couldn’t believe my luck when I got this job. Getting paid to watch films, I just couldn’t get over it. It’s not a lot of money, but it’s only four hours a day, even on a Saturday, and they change the film every week, so I don’t even get bored. I start at six o’clock, so I have time to eat my tea with Ken and the boys before I walk down the hill, and I’m home by half past ten. And to top it all, Ken has to put the little buggers to bed! He’s a good man fair play, never complains, as long as he gets his tea waiting, and has a bit of a cuddle on a Saturday after Match of the Day. And I don’t mind a bit of that either, makes you feel alive doesn’t it! No, this job is the best. All I have to do is sit in the ticket office for half an hour, then take a turn with the torch to make sure people get to their seats OK. Then I carry the ice cream tray around after the short. It’s a bit heavy, but I love the way it lights up the little ones’ excited faces in the dark. In between, I just stand inside the door and watch the film, I miss bits if someone comes in late or can’t find their seat after going to the toilet, but you get the gist anyway, don’t you, and I’ll have seen it all by the end of the week. We have to make sure everyone’s gone before we lock up, and give the toilets a quick mop, but that doesn’t take long between three of us. People are mostly lovely too, as long as you give the right change. I’m even allowed the odd choc ice when…
